Dasavatharam - The complete Package
I saw this movie yesterday evening.
One heck of a movie ! I think this movie defines the genre of "Indian Movie" at its entertaining best.
Isme drama hai, comedy hai, tragedy hai, hero hai, villain hain, dance hai, fight hai - story bhi hai !!! And everything is done by Kamal.
For sometime, I was kind of getting dissapointed with Kamals pretentious works ! He takes himself too seriously. And comes up with convoluted crap as intelligent movie.
Thankfully, he is not doing that in this movie.
Right from the word go, he has managed to rapidly move from one disjoint element to another with a smart interlinking thread, and there by telling different stories through one story. He has managed to keep the pace almost through out the story - may be he lets up a bit just befor the climax - but thats minor.
Offcourse, I am not going to sit and try to logicalise this movie. Thats why I have put this under the archtypical genre of Indian Movie. But yet, there is a sense of brilliance in the way the movie has been held together.
The key characters of the Bio scientist and Ex CIA are portrayed so brilliantly well. All the other supporting 8 characters - of which RAW agent Balram stands heads and shoulder above the rest - have also been done so beautifully well. The make up limits his ability for facial expression in almost all the characters, yet he has managed admirably well.
The supporting cast - Asin & Mallika Sherawat being the key ones - have performed very well tool ! Mallika reminds me of the character Stilleto. Some of the characters are wasted like Nagesh, KR Vijaya - but yet - in the limited canvas - they have done a neat job.
The music - unfortunately - is a let down. I wish he had gone with Illayaraja. I need to mention one thing though : none of the song situations are forced - except offcourse the last one !
The direction is almost invisbile - mostly because Kamal is all over the place in every other department. KSR is as good as it gets when you want something in "indian movie" genre.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie - watching a Tamil movie in movie hall after a long time !
Kamal has regained a fan and the fan's faith in Tamil movie's ability to attract to the big screen.
