It's all so cute :)
and wow he dives too...it is indeed for big people :D
and you gotta be entertaining enough to keep his attention focussed on ye :P

the poor tamil reminds me of my parents concerns...I'm a bong who never lived in WB , entirely brought up in north India! But we had this strict rule of No Hindi at home. Infact during summer vacations mom taught me to read and write bangla and then forced me to write letters to my maternal grandparents [ who lived in Kol] and to my paternal grandparents [who lived with us!!!] , but the biggest break came when i started reading bangla comics and then finally literature...I simply  fell in love with it :)
So I can understand , speak , sing [ folk , modern, rabindra nath tagore form of music  and several other styles thanks to mom] , read , write bangla :) the only thing my mom couldn't make me do -> inculcate bong eating habits . I hate sweets , I abhor fish and rice !

Cheti,
Have a fun trip to Andaman!

LOL at the attention span. Have seen this in my daughter too! Say something exciting and abruptly give the phone to someone else...

Good to know kiddo learned swimming at 5. As for Tamil, tune into some Tamil channel that has dubbed cartoons like Tom & Jerry etc. Sun TV used to have this. Now they've changed.

Priya.

"Now I can well understand why you found my question on my poem a Distant Love frightening and how you could relate to it instantly.
" Thats a bait ! So I will pass that !

As usual I am analysisng both sides uh ! didnt know that was usual with me !

Hi Cheti,
Very cute post. Could just imagine your little ones excitement while talking to you and relating his swimming progress. As usual you are analyzing things on both sides. The positive and negative of not being with your family full time. But the points are very valid both ways. I mean the fact that in your enthusiasm in teaching him you might have hindered his learning. A vacation after a long absence can be really great. Have a great time.
Now I can well understand why you found my question on my poem a Distant Love frightening and how you could relate to it instantly.

Meera .. the so part is .. he cuts me off even before i can say something after so ... lol !!!

My son is 5, will be turning 6 in a month. He didnt have Tamil kids around him at a crucial point when his primary language skills were developing ! Even here, even though we talk in Tamil at home, school and neighbouring kids dont ! I am actually worried now ! He doesnt have a aversion to Tamil or anything ! He is just not in that environment ! So he doesnt need to ! I hope he some how catches up !

I hope so Kala !

I will surely post a photo blog if not a write up !

Very cute :) kids don't understand "SO" - it is like "so...what?" bye!!!

(In Tamil)Very nice, so ..

OK, bye

Happy vacationing in Andaman... and you know, it could be true in lot of cases where *dad* teaches the kid themselves.... how old is yours? Mine raised in Chennai, but talks only in English, he was slow to pick up so we were talking in English, simple sentences, now he refuses to adapt to tamil...well he will and he has to catch up sooner or later... he just shakes his head when he is forced to talk in tamil... and puts on a ragam!..nananananaaaa...!!! which sounds like tamil :)))

Had he been here, he probably wouldnt have learnt at all ! In my misplaced enthusiasm, I might not have allowed him to learn from else where - thinking that I will eventually make time to teach him swimming myself -  and would have just prolonged or even hindered his learning !

Hi Divya

I guess more than a coincidence, it was quiet expected ! Sulkha's "alerts" is relentless about showing what is some one in your friends circle doing pretty meticulously ! lol

I hope to get lot of photos !
