We went to Wayanad.
The roads started neat and wide and clean from Bangalore ! But Boring !
Then it became like this once we entered the foresty area beyond Gundulpet:
Cooler , shadier !
As we kept going deeper and higher into the forest and hill, it eventually became this :
And then we reached our place of stay. It was a beautiful little place tucked away in the hill in the forest. We lived in a cottage :
There was a rivulet running behind the cottage .. down below. The sound of constantly running water was music.
We cross a rope bridge to go to the restaurant. We have fun shaking ourselves up crazy and trying to make others go off balance ! Fortunately , it was not dangerous ! It was just fun !

The restaurant had beautiful seating areas, this typically is the view from there.

Almost always this guy (Flying Malabar Squirrel) joined us for his meal too. It looked like the restaurant staff had befriended him
On the day we reached, spent almost the entire evening just going around the campus in which we were staying. We clambered up and down rocks ( I will keep repeating this)

Or did a close study of various things, like these tiny flowers.

We also played : things like carrom / snooker and table tennis

The Next day we decided go on a hike / trek. We decided to go see Edakkal caves. We underestimated it. We thought how difficult is it going to be to go to cave. ITs definitely going to be difficult if its up a hill, with access being steep narrow rocky slippery stony steps and rusted ladder, with a hyperactive five year old
the hike started off from here ..
Walked up through caves and rocks and mountain paths like this

The view from top was like this

And what we saw in the caves was this

These are not random scratches by a chicken. These are patterns made by humans and its dated 4000 B.C. on the walls of a rock. This cave is formed by two huge rocks standing at a distance from each other and another rock stuck between the two forming the roof. Hence the name "Edakkal" - or Idai Kal - meaning the stone in between. There was also some amount of TAmil Brahmi script dated to 280 A.D. Amazing place !
We came back from here and didnt have the energy to do anything else that day. So we did the usual - nothing or just walking near rivulets.
Abserving strange looking flowers

Following leaf as it flows through water
See faces in light and shadows and rocks and stones (do you ?)
Look out for strange leaves and petals
Hang out with spiders in the room
Look out for small water falls created by unending steps of stones and channelised by leaves
Stranger Flowers
Look for pebbles and rearrange them
Wonder at little water falls
And little frogs
The next day we decided to go to Soochipara Falls !

As you can see, its a beautiful falls. Apparently - this is just little water ! Yet it was so refreshing . We walked upclose to the falls as much as possible. Pretty dangerous place when you actually try to walk due to all the eroded rocks and slippery moss. Yet, son managed to play in the water ! And I managed to get close enought to get sprayed by the falls !
On the way back we decided to go to Pookot lake

It was serene. Good spot to spend a evening.

I decided to spend the rest of the evening / night taking night shots of the place where we stayed. THis is the fountain at the reception area. The lighting makes it look as if its setting the water to fire !
Then the day of on whihc we had to leave dawned ! We had completely enjoyed the three days - eating a lot , enjoying a lot of little moments, sleeping a lot, doing lot of nothings. But we had to go back to the big bad world
I took this photo as we had the parting breakfast ! This is the logo of the place where stayed. And it adorned all dining tables.

Offcourse, my son had been insisting that we see some birds. NOt one to let go of a chance to get a boat ride and see some birds, we decided to stop at Ranganathittu before getting back to Bangalore

Thats a painted stork, trying to get some hardware for a new home

Thats a open mouthed crocodile who need not go back to big bad Bangalore. Who can stay like that all day and get into water once the dries and get back on the rock.
Offcourse, We cant be like.
So we came back.
PS: I am pretty bad at writing lengthy travelogues ! I never get around to doing it ! Hence this photo based notes of the extremely enjoyable four day trip to Vythiri, Wayanad. If you need any specific pointers, drop a comment. I will respond.
